Letter to the Editor:

This is in regard to the article in this weeks Advertiser. We are residents of East Greenbush and are sick and tired of the constant increases in the School Taxes in the East Greenbush School District. We vote faithfully on the School Tax issues usually with a "No" vote on anything that has to do with increased school taxes. We are retired senior citizens living on a limited income and every time we vote against any school tax increases it gets voted in due to the majority of younger people including married and single. Many of the single people being non-property owners and consequently do not pay school and property tax. Married people with children will definitely vote "Yes" on the issues because their children will benefit from the improvements. Whether it is to improve their brain or just give them extra curricular activities at the elderly taxpayers expense. We definitely agree about pulling maintenance on various school facilities year to year rather than waiting until an accumulation of problems occur. Now there are a list of things that have to be repaired and right away a tax increase has to be made to cover the expense over many years. SO MUCH FOR THE STAR PROGRAM! As for the swimming pool and other new additions, is this really necessary in order for a child to have a good education? What they don't have they won't miss. If a pool will make a difference in the students marks why can't they use the YMCA facility when it is built. This time a pool, next time maybe a bowling alley, a golf course or a cross country track, etc., etc., etc. We can go on and on and on.
